Question by .: Why does the Big 10 always complain that SEC teams won’t travel to play in cold weather for football….?
when they are the main ones who pushed for a uniform start date in college baseball because they felt at a disadvantage because said cold weather? Different sport but same premise, right?

Apples and Oranges. In baseball, in the spring and summer in the south, it’s all the same. In the Big Ten, schools like Minnesota have to deal with snow as late as may, where as an Ohio State doesn’t have to deal with it past March(usually). Plus, when was the last time the SEC canceled a football game because of rain or snow? How about Baseball.

Well, Alabama was scheduled to play at Penn St. last year but it backed out and scheduled Arkansas St. at home.

  2. baseketball player says:

it depends, because every team wants to play at home so instead of scheduling a game michigan state, they will play some 1-AA team at home.

I live in Tennessee and I honestly believe that the big teams in the SEC, are cowards. The medium and less competitive schools like Arkansas scheduled USC a few years ago and Tennessee scheduled UCLA and Notre Dame in recent years but yeah the big schools in the SEC are cowards and avoid any real competition outside of their division.
I hope that since the SuperBowl was just voted in favor of having a super bowl in New York, then perhaps college football will come off of it’s cowardly ways of playing BCS only in California, Texas, Arizona or in the backyard of the SEC.

I think they feel that if the division is so great and which it is, they would be up to traveling to an area like Michigan. Honestly though, the SEC is the most honered division in the NCAA and its where most of the great teams play anyway.

ok we’ll send some teams to play in Ann Arbor in late november and december.. but you gotta come on down and play us in August when it’s 115 degrees on the field ;)

I don’t think that’s true…I mean it’s not even really that cold when the sec teams would actually be able to travel to a big 10 school. Conference games are always played later in the season, and I don’t see the big 10 or sec wanting to play against each other between conference games.

  7. Monty R says:

I live in TN but i believe the SEC is the most overrated conference in college football, and yes you never see a SEC vs Big 10 game during the season. Of course Ohio St. had 2 chances to beat the SEC in a national title game and failed.

You can’t build your team on speed if you play in the cold. The Big Ten teams are built to play in the cold, the SEC teams are built on speed. Big difference. Plus, football is awesome in the cold. Hard bloody bone crushing hits. Yeah!
