Does Britain not issue travel ID cards?

In Holland you can get a passport and/or an ID card. And the ID cards are much cheaper and more convenient to carry around.

  1. Crispin says:

Citizens or nationals of member countries of the European Union may travel within the European Economic Area, also EU; In fact there are states within the EU wherein a visa issued by a member state can be used to travel to other Schengen states. There is not one EU passport, but your passport as a British, French, Italian etc.would enable you to travel to member EU nations.

A fact of life. We need a document. ID cards have been scrapped. WE are NOT in Schengen, so you need a passport to get out to anywhere other than Ireland. To fly there you need photo ID and many use their passport for that purpose!

  3. GerdP says:

Crispin (or International Visa Counselor [as called now[) is telling a lot of nonsense. Italian or French people do not need passports to travel between European Union countries. Only citizen of countries which do not issue national ID cards must have their passports to travel in Europe. Those countries are Denmark, Ireland, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately you are four years to young to get a free British passport which is issued for those born on the 2nd of September 1929 or earlier.

    @ Ramon:
Please answer questions applying to Canada (where you reside) and do not think that provisions applicable to Northern America also apply to Europe. EU CITIZENS DO NOT NEED PASSPORTS IF THEIR COUNTRY ISSUES NATIONAL ID CARDS. I have been in Austria, Belgium, Czechian, Denmark, England, Greece, France, Luxembourg, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and Yugoslavia with just my German national ID card (Personalausweis). We EU citizens only use the passport for intercontinental travel, only the British, Danish, Irish, and Latvian citizen do not have nationals ID cards and need the passport!
