Q&A: On what basis do air travelers undergo body scanners? Why is it made into such a big deal?

Question by Jay: On what basis do air travelers undergo body scanners? Why is it made into such a big deal?
I have never been asked to step into one, and I travel on a monthly/bimonthly basis.

And why are people so pissed about the body scanners? If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about. It is just a body scanner.

You are selected on a profile….
if you match the (unpublished) proflle…. you will get selected for additional checks.
the current additional checks include a body scan.

congratulations, on not being selected for additional scanning/checks.

I have a good friend, middle aged, female, from the far east, who is good looking and dresses moderately well and is careful not o carry anything to trigger scanners (as every one is advised)…

She is selected EVERY time…. and she gets very annoyed..

last time she asked to speak to someone about it.. all they did was tell (Lie to) her that it was because it was random.. (which they later commented was not/was profile based) and just proceded to threaten her with getting the police and prosecuting her if she did not comply with the body scan… (not even a chance to not fly..)

It is that sort of issue (and that it does present a pretty open view of the body) that get speople upset. As she says, if everyone went through it.. fine. but selection – especially without any trigger – is discrimination !

wait till every trip/journey through the airport that you take is delayed by being taken off the machine room etc.

I know! I don’t understand how people feel ciolated by it! I am 15 and I don’t have a problem with it. I would very much rather go through a silly body scanner than being blown up on an airplane. Just saying
