Safer than the US, but then, that’s easy.

    Yes.

I don’t know about other countries but Lithuania is. Trust me coz I’m Lithuanian

It makes a big difference in Lithuania and in Europe generally that guns are not openly sold and it is illegal to possess them. Crime patterns are entirely different in terms of personal violence. Your risk of having someone pull a gun on you in Lithuania is a tiny, tiny fraction of what it is in the US.

There is a good discussion of travelling in Lithuania in the FAQ’s on http://www.LithuaniaVisits.com.

It is generally much safer than some foreigners tend to think, I guess this tinking rises from lack of proper information and distorted representation in the media. However, it is true that crime rate there is somewhat higher that, for instance, in Western Europe. But you will be ok if you follow basic precaution rules (lock you car, don’t flash your cash unnecessarily, don’t walk in bad neighbourghoods after dark, stuff like that). These are just common sense rules and can be applied no matter where you go in the world. As others said, gun crimes are extremely rare and extremely unlikely.
I am female and I have never been robbed or attacked in my life, nor anybody else from my friends or family ever was.

P.S. – here I was just talking about Lithuania, I cannot comment on situation in other Eastern European countries, since it may differ.
