Im not sure why, but there must be anticipation of busy weekend, as a few of the motels I checked are beginning to fill up. I used a man from Vegas who is a professional gambler. His advice saved me over 0 on an 11 day trip. Maybe give him a try. I will keep my ear to the ground.

MGM Signature is an all-suite hotel that is very nice.
If you’re looking for one suite for all 8 people, then you’re going to have a hard time. Most Vegas suites still only accommodate up to 4 people, so you’d need 2 suites at most places. And that would almost certainly be more than you are budgeting. The Palms has some amazing suites that would accommodate 8 or more, but they are thousands of dollars a night.
You might want to look into the all-suite hotels, such as Venetian/Palazzo, Rio, and MGM Signature – all of the rooms are small suites (living room area and bedroom area, which are slighly separated), and you can request adjoining rooms to have more of that suite-type experience.
It looks like Southwest, AirTran, and Frontier all fly out of Detroit and into Vegas (maybe not direct from one to the other though). They are low-cost airlines and will probably give you the best rates for airfare.
Things to do:
*See a show – there are tons of shows, and something for everyone. Some popular ones are the Cirque shows, Jersey Boys, Blue Man Group, Terry Fator, Penn & Teller, and Jubilee.
*Bellagio fountains (free)
*Mirage volcanoes (free)
*Sirens of TI pirate show at Treasure Island (free)
*Lion Habitat at MGM (free)
*Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum at Venetian
*Stratosphere rides and/or view
*NYNY coaster and arcade
*Mandalay Bay Shark Reef
*Mirage Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat
*Shopping – Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood, Forum Shops at Caesars, Grand Canal Shops at Venetian/Palazzo, Fashion Show Mall near Treasure Island, and outlets south of the strip
*Clubs – there is a great nightlife in Vegas if you are into clubs
*Fremont Street experience at night
Well, honestly, every time I book our trip to Vegas, I find better deals booking flight and hotel separately. I book my flights through Southwest and then use promotion codes from http://smartervegas.com/ to book my hotel directly through the hotel website.
You are going to pay way more for a suite than a hotel room, and any suite that can fit more than 4 people is going to cost an arm and a leg. Your best bet is to book 2 or 4 separate rooms at a cheaper hotel. I personally would recommend Excalibur because they have very nice, modern Widescreen rooms. It is definitely an upgrade from their standard room but you can still get it for less than any other hotel.
I think you should be able to go for less than $375 per person, depending on airfare. Each hotel rate is for double occupancy, meaning for each additional person there is a charge of $30 per night. So if you have 4 people staying in one room, that’s an extra $60 per night. Most people get around this by not telling the front desk that there are more than 2 staying in the room, then they don’t pay the extra person charge.
Here are rates for some of the cheaper hotels in Vegas for your dates. All of them include decent, modern rooms. Even Tropicana’s have been renovated recently. The rate for Excalibur is for a “Widescreen Room” NOT a “standard room”.
Actual Rates for April 14-17:
Excalibur- $300 including resort fee per room (2 rooms= $600= $75 per person)
Luxor- $400 including resort fee per room (2 rooms= $800= $100 per person)
Flamingo- $355 with no resort fee per room (2 rooms= $710= $89 per person)
Tropicana- $375 including resort fee per room (2 rooms= $750= $94 per person)
Actual airfare for April 14-17: (American, Delta and Southwest are over $400)
Spirit Airlines- $294.40 http://www.spirit.com/CalendarMarket.aspx
United Airlines- $315.30 https://travel.united.com/ube/selectPriceAction.do?waitingPageFlag=true
So if you can book the fare on Spirit along with the Excalibur booking, the total would be almost exactly $375 per person. I think, from what I saw, that is definitely your best bet. It seems like airfare is just getting more and more expensive.
Good luck!
