How safe is Antigua to travel to?
Question by : How safe is Antigua to travel to?
Will it be safe for me and a female friend to walk around without a male accompanying us? Are the all-inclusives generally safe? When is the best time to travel here(weather wise)?

Antigua is quite safe. They have tourist police there. Recently there have been some robberies. Robbers have targeted hostels and vehicles parked along the road. There’s not been any instance of violent crime against tourists that I’m aware of. You’ll see plenty of people walking around, and plenty of police but there are still some areas to avoid. I’m not sure what you mean about “all-inclusives” The best months to travel are from November to May. That’s the time of year we don’t have rain. It’s usually 60 to 75 Farenheit during this time of year. Do some research on where you’re staying, avoid hostels and group tours. That’s my best advise. You’re rolling the dice on safety when you travel anywhere. Increasing your odds for safety are your best bet. Reputable tour companies have information that can be supplied to ensure your safety. The American embassy is also a very good reference for travel safety.

I have been to Antigua a multitude of times, it’s very safe and quite touristy. There are many sights, and it’s really beautiful. However, if you are looking for a real Guatemalan experience, it isn’t quite accurate. But yes, it is definitely the safest area of Guatemala. I wouldn’t go during the summer (well, summer here I mean) because that’s the rainy season. I would have to say May is probably the best time to go, but that’s something I’m not really an expert about.
