you could check and see whether you can get any good deals on train tickets … I usually use http://www.thetrainline.com/ … if you book far enough in advance sometimes you can get cheap tickets, but it depends on when you want to go … the train journey seems to take 3 hours each way so you would need to start early and be prepared to come back late
a coach might be cheaper but seems to take more than 5 hours (mostly with a change at Birmingham)
personally I would say driving … 168 miles approx, takes about 3 hours … depending on your vehicle’s fuel consumption, and whether you’re sharing the car with others, it’s likely to be your cheapest option

Train is going to be best. Book as far in advance as possible for the cheapest tickets either by going to the ticket office at Bristol Temple Meads or at via the rail company website http://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk

You know perfectly well what the answer is.
There are like 5 methods to get places.
Drive yourself, cycle, walk, bus , train.
If you drive and want to take a car then you calculate miles into petrol. simple. Cycle is not possible. Walk is not possible.
That leaves bus and train.
We all know trains are fastest and most comfortable, but really expensive. So make your decision. Look up bus times and prices, train times and prices, and pick whatever one you are happy with.
The train is never going to be cheap, ever. Buses are cheap, so do that. But it won’t be ‘best’. And if it is late booking it will be almost the price of a train.
