Question by We Never Left!!: Are you planning on attending the airshow in Hualien Taiwan this Sunday, May 29th, 9AM to 5PM?
This is a TAIWAN TRAVEL ALERT!

As the threat of another typhoon fades away, all systems are “GO!” for this weekend’s “must-see” event.

Residents, Tourists and Ex-pats are welcome to attend the best airshow ever!
And… it’s FREE!

Scheduled aerial displays include:

The Thunder Tigers aerobatic team, complete with “blooming lily” finish
F-16 demonstrations with high-G turns and a high-speed low-pass (screaming by with afterburner on at 1000 ft STRAIGHT ABOVE your head; awesome!)
F-5E Photo Recon demo (the most beautiful and photogenic plane in the whole of ROCAF)
Parachute team C-130 drop
S-70 Rescue Helicopter demo
M-2000 Mirage demonstration
IDF CK-1 demonstration.

Add to that the static displays, food, drinks, marching bands, etc., and you have a whole day of fun for your family/friends!

Come wave at Ma Ying-jeou. He’s sure to be waving at you!
(And, there WILL CERTAINLY BE PLENTY OF ROC FLAGS on display HERE!)
(As some of you may know, the 1000ft afterburner pass over the crowd is banned in most areas of the world, might be the last chance to catch one.)
@Abe – First, I was directly in the path of one of those passes last year, and I have the video of it that Matt has requested. Second, I am well aware of the dangers of airshow performances, my father died during an airshow when his plane crashed due to a freak wind shear. If I’m not back here on Monday, check the news.

OK… so maybe it was only 500ft above me… hahaha

Sounds cool. Maybe I should try to swing by… but it is a bit far out for me, probably 90% chance I won’t make it to the east side even for that. Get some video links of that afterburner pass online if you survive and email me the link. That would be awesome. Is there a website for that show with some plane pics?

Wow, I just read that it is free. How awesome is that?!? That sounds so cool. If I was closer I would go for sure. I have to settle for watching the Mirage fighters scream by my work’s roof top each day, but I don’t get to see any tricks other than take offs, landings and sometimes they chase each other around a bit. Sometimes when I commute they are just over the highway and it shakes while I drive. It is awesome. Technology is so cool.

There is a logical reason that, “the 1000ft afterburner pass over the crowd is banned in most areas of the world”. If the plane experiences even a slight problem, then it can easily crash and kill hundreds of spectators. I urge you to stand directly in the path of the “1000ft afterburner pass”. Air shows are famous for their spectacular plane crashes. The hope of seeing a plane crash is the main reason that most people attend air shows.

I so want to go see. is there free gan mien available too?
but Taiwan is so far away from me, why?
on the other hand, i am often waken up by noisy airplanes, i hate it, i always think Cuba or DPRK come to attack US.
