Should you not indulge in any amount of alcohol during medication for Malaria and after medication and does air travel have an effect on Malaria.

Better to stop alcohol while taking medication and no need to worry about air travel its ok.

    Alcohol is a diuretic and during malaria, your body needs water to flush out the yuck. (that’s a medical term) Also your filters, the liver in this case, is working over time filtering and cleaning your blood. You don’t need to hamper the liver with alcohol too.

    If parasite-filled blood cells block small blood vessels to your brain (cerebral malaria), swelling of your brain or brain damage may occur. Being in a pressurized cabin may be more than just uncomfortable.

    along with diarrhea and vomiting in a small airplane loo….stinky and confining. Again….yuck!

    If you are talking about malaria treatment that you take to prevent an infection–yes you CAN drink whilst you take the tablets. Most people are prescribed these when they travel abroad on holidays to destinations that have a high risk of contracting malaria. These tablets are NOT affected by air travel.

    If you currently are infected with malaria, you should not drink. Being exhausted and weak are the two most common effects and malaria directly affects your liver. As does alcohol. I can’t imagine many people who travel while they are in an acute phase of malaria (too tiring and there would be no need unless you needed urgent medical treatment not available locally).
