What do “USA Visa Checks” involve?
Question by Jack: What do “USA Visa Checks” involve?
OK, I’d booked to goto Vegas to get married in 2 weeks.
Just found out I don’t qualify for the Visa Waver Programme – I need a visa as I was once arrested.
I was arrested over 10yrs ago for scratching my name on a wall and having a little canabis in my pocket. The total fine from the courts was £70…. a very minor “naughty boy” slap on the wrist, but an arrest all the same.
Trouble is that to get a visa will take 8 weeks, and I’d planned to get wed in 20 days! Oh dear!
So I can’t get a visa. I’m a British Citizen with a full British “chipped” passport, traveling with my fiancee and both our sets of parents. I don’t look like the type any immigration or customs are looking for….
Whats the chances of getting through? Will their computer just go “bing” as soon as they put my passport through it, or will I just look like 1 of hundreds of other UK holiday makers traveling through without needing visas. Does anybody know what info’s on that chip in my passport?

You should be able to do it in plenty of time, provided you are cooperative and upfront about your arrest, and don’t have any suspicious activity in your history (like living in Libya for three months, or periodic trips to Moscow for “tourism”). But I would call ‘em up anyway and ask before you apply.
“The average visa processing time for successful applicants is five business days, during which time the applicant’s passport must remain with the Embassy.”
