Question by tjtennis: Can I get into these colleges?
I am a senior at a competitive public school in NY. I want to know what my chances would be at Emerson, Charleston, Washington and Lee, Elon, Marymount, NYU, BU, BC, SUNY Bing, and SUNY Geneseo (I’m not applying to all of these places, just getting ideas)
Here are my… whatevers.
-3.5ish GPA
-720 Writing
-720 Critical Reading
-690 Math
-29 ACT
-Advanced Regents Diploma (doesnt matter in out of state schools i dont think)
-** Took extensive/selective 3 year independent study course called “Humanities Research”. Developed an outstanding project and had a mentor.
-AP Law
-AP Psychology
-AP Gov/ Politics
-Varsity tennis for 4 years
-Ranked around 100 in east coast in 16′s and under boys singles (USTA)
-Model UN for 4 years (won an award at a conference during soph year)
-100 or so hours community service
-I’m a VERY strong writer
-Traveled to Dominican Republic during a winter vacation to bring an unpriveledged child back to the United States to become adopted and have a future.
- Play piano, write songs and sing

You have excellent credentials, but your GPA and SAT scores vary based on schools. For example, your SAT scores are excellent for Emerson, but your GPA would be better suited for Bing.

I’d for sure say W&L, Emerson and Charleston. And those are the 3 I’d apply to of the colleges you mentioned. Small atmosphere and class sizes, excellent professors; if I were doing it over again, I’d go to those (visited W&L but didn’t apply due to cost of tuition . . . biggest mistake I’ve ever made).
