Tour for Rajasthan – young at heart?

Question by Sharon: Tour for Rajasthan – young at heart?
What is the best tour to go on in Rajasthan? We have ten days at Christmas and it’s the first time we’ve been to India. What are the dangers/joys of the area? Looking for a trip with other young professionals.

The crazy lorry drivers who always drive on the wrong side of the road if their side is blocked.

Went last christmas – delhi – agra – jaipur

the road from delhi to jaipur was a freaking nightmare – i have never seen so many dead bodies on a stretch of road/a guy electrocuted and flying through the air/ lorry crashes// babies in the middle of roads in jaipur…. a van crushed with its occupants…. a petrol tanker spewing petrol across the highway… towns with no electricity… beggars beyond belief (god love them) demented people abandoned and naked walking around in circles in the dirt…. hardly any women.

Crikey we thought we were in afghanistan!!!! We have travelled all over Asia – many times and India has to be the absolute worst place ever for poverty.

Gave away just about everything I was carrying and most of my cash to the sad, the poor and the beautiful kiddies. It takes a very stern heart to get around that country unscathed. I don’t think i will ever be going back. I went trekking in Nepal and it was nowhere near as bad – also to Tibet – again not as bad – even Cambodia and Burma were nowhere near as bad…….

The dangers are pickpockets and men staring at you all the time if you are a woman. Women really are second and third grade citizens there.
Delhi belly…. and overpriced hotels. Also the rip off merchants at the mosques you visit along the way from delhi to jaipur and back again.

You get to the stage where you just want to scream GET AWAY FROM ME – NOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!! everyone is out to make a buck (cant blame them) but it does get to you – we did the Golden Triangle over two weeks and I couldnt wait to leave.

Delhi Agra Jaipur and all the usual places for tourists – taj – red fort – amber fort – all the local tourist spots blah blah….. felt traumatized when i got back!! ha ha – and I really am a seasoned traveller.

Just too soft hearted.
Fascinating trip – if you can stomach it – go for it – it is an experience you will NEVER forget.
