i know the legend of the Taj Mahal. but i recently heard that there were two of them. one was white like the one that we know of. but i have heard that there was a black one that sat across the river from the one that we have today or was supposed to be. any body else heard of this?

yes , there is. only foundation built by shahjanha, because after aurangzeb arrest him, work stopped

What you have heard is absolutely true, that a Black Taj Mahal was supposed to be built right behind the present one just across the river but before it was materialised Shahjahan (builder of Taj) was held captive by his son Aurangazeb and the Black Taj was never built.
Aurangazeb was against the Black Taj as he thought it was a complete wastage of wealth,labour,energy and time.
