Question by DEGREASER: What will happen here family torn apart over a piece of paper Woman deported from US for using fake passport?
AHMEDABAD: A 28-year-old woman, Jigna Patel, was deported to India by the US immigration department after it came to light that she had travelled on someone else’s passport. Immigration officers at Sardar Patel International Airport have handed her over to Sardarnagar police station officials and have lodged a complaint against her for travelling on illegal documents.
Police officials said that Patel, a resident of Ghatlodia, was taken into custody at 9 pm on Thursday after the US officials caught her travelling using fake passport.
“During the primary investigation, Patel’s husband Dakshesh was working in a US firm in 2005. Patel had tried to go to the US and so she contacted an immigration agent in Gandhinagar, who, in turn, contacted a Chennai-based agent. The duo then managed to get her a US passport of a woman resembling Patel and sent her to the States illegally,” said YR Gamit, inspector of Sardarnagar police station.
She went to the US in 2007 and was living there till the immigration department officials came knocking at her door and informed her that there were some anomalies in her immigration papers. She was then questioned about the passport and she confessed that she did not have any. She was then deported and was sent back to the city on Wednesday. Her flight landed on Thursday evening.
“We have got one-day remand for her. We want to know the chain of events and the names of the agents involved in the trade. We believe that it is the same gang which has a number of similar cases registered against them,” said Gamit.

Er…..didn’t the person’s illegal act play any part in that “tearing apart?”
The family was not torn apart over a piece of paper. The family was torn apart because the woman committed a crime.
As to what will happen to the family…I have no idea but she should have thought about that before she committed her crime.
do the crime, pay the time.
She’s lucky she didn’t get jail time since it is a criminal offense. It is a federal felony to impersonate yourself as a US citizen when you’re not.
