Question by Rolling Stone: Atheists–Is this as good as it gets?
If that is what you believe, then I feel sorry for you, Maybe you have things pretty nice. Maybe you live in a nice home, good school, freedom, relative peace, nice possessions, etc.
What about the person living in the inner city? The homeless, the strife for food, living on the streets, begging for money, high crime, etc. Is this as good as it will ever get for them? Should the Atheist living in a ghetto feel that this is about as good as it will get and then you die? What about those in third world nations?
Do you feel that the future governments of the world and yet to come new inventions/findings will eliminate all suffering world wide?
Or-Is life as we know it, or life as it will be in the next 20 plus years, be as good as it will ever get?
Do you feel that you live, you die, you become worm food–end of story.? No such thing as Heaven? Nothing better to follow? Is that line of thinking as good as it will ever get?.
Then why aren’t you out enjoying life to the greatest degree? Why aren’t you traveling the world over and seeing all the great things there are to see? The seven wonders of the world and more. Things like the pyramids, Taj Mahal. Great Wall of China, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Rome, London, Africa, the Grand Canyon, Polar Ice Caps, the tropics? Or even things like: The Golden Gate Bridge, Gate Way Arch, Empire State Building, Sears Tower, The White House, Disney World.
Have you been surfing, parachuting /hand gliding, mountain climbing, gone to the Super Bowl, World Series, seen the top bands and actors? Have you built a big beautiful home, own a Jaguar, Royce Royce, classic 57 Chevy or 63 Mustang? No? Why Not? If this is as good as it gets, then I’d get it all.
The Christian has eternal life, eternal bliss in Heaven to look forward to and it’s assured to us through Jesus Christ. We can strive for the better but we know that suffering will never end and we can count it all as bliss because it can only last for the short time we are here on earth. An everlasting life filled with wonder awaits us Heaven.
If you feel that this life is as good as it gets, I feel sorry for you and I hope you will come to accept Christ into your life.
Guru: And you know I don’t do volunteer work because………? Sorry, your wrong. My church has sent people to New Orleans to help re-build three or four times. Ever hear of Christian sponsored soup kitchens, clothing drives, blood drives, cool/heat centers? I have & have worked in such.
Look out, your going to bump into your ego.

it is indeed good not to corrupt your mind with delusional belief, although you will have to take my word for that

  2. Karma Kadjy says:

So your life only matters because you believe there is something after it? I feel SORRY for YOU.

  3. Ryan P says:

Actually, living in a ghetto would create atheists, not create believers. Seeing the worst parts of Detroit isn’t exactly a thing that’d make you believe in a creator.

  4. Smooth Kitty AY AE says:

    Blah

    BLAH

    blah

  5. Parrot says:

Stop feeling sorry for us. We’re doing just fine, thank you very much.

  6. Kevin says:

oh boy… your going to get some interesting answers to this one …

  7. Blessed by being me says:

once you have tangible proof that Christ is a God, then maybe your rant would make sense, until then, i hope you enjoyed typing for nothing

  8. Guru says:

A perfect example of a BAD christian huffing and puffing hot air to show their intolerance, egotism and love of persecuting others!!

I have worked with lepers, in disaster areas, with aid agencies and in charities to help the poor and disadvantaged. I was a director of several charities, deputy chairman of two and also did a certain amount of voluntary work!!

Now I am retired I do a certain amount of consultancy – for free – with charities and also do a little voluntary work.

People who post like you never do aid or charity work, never help others but do love to deride those that do like constantly telling non christian aid and charity workers they are going to hell!!

Get real kid – look at your posts and attitudes and you will realize you are putting yourself way out in front for that place!!!

  9. vikram says:

I don’t got no money, but i would do all that if i had money.

By the way you’re just another Christian who wants to have a thumb to suck and you’re depressed bcoz you probably are comming to know its tru – We are just worm food after we die. Just like every other organism.

  10. Obey me or go to hell. Love, god says:

Just because you desperately want something to be true, doesn’t make it true. Enjoy life while you’ve got it, and quit waiting for a magic wizard in the sky to reward you with a special fantasyland after you die.

  11. Mystine G says:

I am enjoying life to the greatest degree. But you are projecting what you would enjoy onto me. Not everybody enjoys the same things. If you want to travel the world over, I say go for it. That is not my idea of a good time. If you want to spend your money on frivolous things, again, you should go for it, but it’s not what I want out of life. If you want to be religious and believe in an afterlife, good for you. But it doesn’t work for me. See how this works? What makes you happy doesn’t make me happy because we have different beliefs, interests, and goals. And as long as we leave each other alone, there should be no conflict.

  12. Bob says:

atheists are the kind of people that are not convinced through emotional ways. u need to give them rational reasons, without committing fallacies, to make them believe u. u didn’t do that. try again latter…

  13. ABB says:

Feel better for that little rant?

Go out and play on the swings, it’ll cheer you up.

  14. Hitler says:

these are something i can pursue and enjoy throughout my life…~! as a human being, we strive to get what we aimed for~! this perhaps is as good as it gets… but it’s REAL…~! i live a reality life… and i don’t wait for something that no one can assured me to have~!

if you feel eternity is something you can enjoy next life… i can assured you that i feel very sorry for you this life~!

  15. Twist Mayhem says:

LOL!!! I feel sorry for YOU, damn dude, you are quite the little ignorant one eh?
    I’m a PROUD atheist.
You really need a reality check.

  16. Rick in the Santa hat says:

So because life isn’t nice for most people in this world, then that must mean there’s something more? Do you realize how much of a non sequitur that is?

“Then why aren’t you out enjoying life to the greatest degree?”
Because I don’t have unlimited resources, and I don’t really want to see most of those things.

“The Christian has eternal life, eternal bliss in Heaven to look forward to and it’s assured to us through Jesus Christ.”
And the Muslim has eternal life, eternal bliss in heaven to look forward to, assured to them by Allah. Your point?

  17. Michael C says:

Sounds like you don’t have any of those things either and have given up on ever getting them. Rather than work to improve, you take refuge in a myth and are now free to be as arrogant to others as you always wanted to be.
Life is unfair get over it. WORK!

  18. Leonard says:

If believing a lie makes you feel better, more power to you. But I can´t say I find it an admirable position.

But you were never an atheist. Otherwise you would understand that your religion adds nothing, is obsolete – and therefore there is no difference for an adult.

“I feel sorry for you” says the worm to the man. Ha!

  19. ZER0 C00L ••AM••VT•• ▼ ►WEIRD◄ ▲ says:

You want me to answer ALL those question?? Fine.

No, I think it gets better… and sometimes it gets worse, too.

    What about them?

    For some of them, yes.

Not necessarily. Lots of people with meager beginnings accomplish great things.

I hope they live decent lives.

    No.

    No.

There’s a bit more complexity between “you’re born” and “you die”, but yes, life ends at death. It’s pretty simple.

    No.

    No.

What about a line of thinking?

I enjoy life in my own way.

I don’t have the means, the energy or the time to travel the world.

I’d like to see most of those places some day. Right now I’m raising my child and going to college.

No, no/no, yes, no, no, yes and no.

    No, no, no, no, no.

    No.

Because I don’t want most of those things and even if I did, I don’t have the money to buy them and protect them.

    Phew, I’m done!

  20. Dano says:

Why do you hate people, who don’t think the same way as you? I thought it said in the bible to love everyone? also there are plenty of religious homeless folks

  21. Na'toth says:

The Christian does not have “eternal life to look forward too” he just thinks he does, that’s not the same thing.

You speak as though weather god exists or not is up to us, that we choose to have no god and no heaven, that we somehow make these things happen, or stop them from happening. But it’s not about what we would “like” to be true, it’s about what there is evidence for, what there is reason to believe. Wishful thinking will not create a god and a heaven, but, if some people need to live that way, then fine, I don’t want to take that from them.

But, by the same token, knowing that this life is probably all there is, gives greater inspiration, not just to make the most of our lives as you suggest, but to try to make the world a better place for everyone, most of us in small ways, some in more significant ways. The person living under a bridge or in a war zone, may feel some comfort from believing in god, but it won’t actually stop the war, or put a roof over their head. To do that, some people have to concern themselves with the world the way it really is, and care about the quality of people’s lives in the here and now. Your diatribe is all “Me, me, me” the Christian religion among others, is all, “how will I get into heaven, what is in it for me?”, “Me, me, me” I don’t think much of that, and wouldn’t want to wast my life on it.

So don’t feel sorry for me, or any other atheists/non-believers. Whatever we have, it’s real. Whatever we do, it’s in the real world, whoever we help, we do it because we want to and not because of some heavenly pay off, this life is as good as we can make it, it may , at times, not seem as attractive as heaven, but then it does have the advantage of actually existing, and we do have it, now, while we are alive, which is quite helpful, and a lot more fun:)

  22. Lady Lynx says:

I would love to travel the world. Unfortunately that requires a lot of money. I’m a poor college student. I need every penny to pay off my loans. And maybe I don’t want to visit all those places. I only have one or two places in mind, then I’m happy to stay at home.
I don’t surf, parachute, or do any of those other things because I don’t like the risk involved.
I hate sports, so why would I ever go to the superbowl?
I don’t need a big home to be happy. The one I have now is perfect for me.
I like my ’97 ford taurus just fine. That is my dream car. I don’t care about mustangs or jaguars, or any of the fancy cars.

I feel sorry for you, that you can’t enjoy life now and have to look forward to something after death to find happiness. Does this mean that you are completely miserable right now? Why not do something to make your situation a bit better rather than live with your head in the clouds thinking of nothing but what will happen after death?

  23. Neil M says:

What a lot of miserable nonsense you’re talking.

You could take a lesson from Buddhism. They say the trick is to strive to want what you get rather than the other way around. That cuts out need for promises including the blatantly false religious promises.

  24. Stephanie N says:

All the poor guy is doing is asking a legitimate question “Is this as good as it gets” … No! Not for me! And you don’t have to be maggot food either.. yes infact you WILL die. but WHAT IF you can just stop.. think look and listen.. and see what he is trying to say?Ii am listening my friend. you have my attention If it was your goal to reach out!YOU FOUND ONE PERSON WHO’S FAITH WAS GOING DOWN HILL! Thank you so much my dear you have opened my eyes to what some of the world has turned into I at least have my faith when all they hold onto is nothing more tham wordly thoughts and goods! God Bless you hun!

  25. darkvelvetrain says:

Why aren’t you traveling the world over and seeing all the great things there are to see?
I have seen China, Pisa, Rome, the Grand Canyon, and the Tropics. I plan to go to the Taj Mahal with my Indian friends soon, polar ice caps, London, and Africa don’t really interest me. I have also seen every one of the U.S. sites you listed.

I have gone surfing, don’t like the idea of hang gliding, have gone mountain climbing, don’t care much for football but was at an NBA finals game in LA, seen all of my favorite bands, have a nice home, and own the car I want (its a Lexus, not a crappy Jag or boat car).

I still have many places I will get to visit, many people I have yet to meet. Accepting Christ won’t change my life for the better, only make me a slave to lies and the liars who perpetrate them.

It is not God that gave me the opportunities to do all of these things, it is my own dedication and hard work. It was all of the hours of studying on Sundays while others were in Church. It was the willingness to work on Christmas and Easter that showed management that I had what it takes to move up. It was not by wasting time praying for success to come.

Furthermore, I do these things because I KNOW that there won’t be a magical sky amusement park waiting for me when I die, I have to see all I can see and do all I can do now because I will never have another chance.

  26. Becki says:

I always thought you people were a little silly for wasting your whole lives waiting for the “next.”
When I die, I will find rest: “I”, as in the consiousness that is me, will no longer exist. The energy that makes me alive will go into the heat and the light as my body cremates, and, ultimately, I will end up in the wind and the rain. This is all I want from death. I will no longer have to think, to worry, to suffer. I will no longer have to endure the endless lethargy of just “being”. I will be gone. Forever.
The idea of heaven terrifies me. Stuck, FOREVER, HAVING to be happy. It’s not that I don’t want to be happy, but I want the ability to not be if Imma be stuck existing, you know?

I do enjoy life- I like furthering my knowledge of the world and doing my best to help people. Once I eventually get through school, college, uni, and get a decent-paying job, I plan on travelling the world. Am I not enjoying myself? Am I not fulfilled? Will I not be satisfied when I die?
I think I will. You, however, will face the blackness that comes at the end and you will know in your heart that you have wasted your time all along.
Go outside, it is a nice day. Enjoy this while you can- this is all you’re gonna get.

  27. Purple Moogle says:

You sound like you’re asking why we don’t strive to get all the best things in life (or at least, the best things in your opinion) as this is the only one we get.

I don’t believe there is an afterlife, but that doesn’t mean I have to do any of the things you’ve said. To be honest, I’m happy just living my life. None of those things you’ve mentioned particularly bother me.

  28. Frou Frou says:

at the age of 57 , you shoudl be a lot more mature than this

to actually feerl sorry for someone for their views is an immature view at the best of times, for soemone of your age and expected maturity, its horrendous

life isnt as simple as do what you want
maybe the propaganda spread by certain religions claims it is, but, , that isnt the truth
i hope you will coem to accept others own personal views and expeineces but at teh age of 57 and stil having this small limited view, it seems sadly unlikely
