Hello We are planning to travel to manali from mumbai. We don’t want to go to delhi and then reach manali. However, we’ve heard about the super fast train jammu tawi express to chakki bank. But it reaches around 6.30 – 7 p.m.

So what about transport during the evening hours? I am travelling with a wife and a 6 month old kid. So safety is a first priority.

If it is safe and secure around those hours and what would be recommended a private taxi (what would it cost?) or any bus service?

i’ve heard about Dalhousie, Dharamsala, Mcleodganj, Kangra Valley, Jwalaji, and Chintpurni all being close and around. I’m particularly interested in mcleodganj.

How do i travel for it from chakki bank in the evening? Any good budget hotel to stay in chakki bank for the day of arrival? Or i can directly go to mcleodganj from chakki bank in the evening itself and get a good hotel there?

Any suggestions would be welcome, this would be my first time visiting himachal pradesh, so am mighty confused. I do not wish to go by any tour operator as I want the freedom to decide my own tour.

i’ve learnt of the swaraj express that reaches chakki bank around 1 p.m. afternoon. so how about the journey from there on? like to mcleodganj or something before that?

Any small guest house or something, just to freshen up and stuff?
